How it's made:
I took 4 medium sized onions, 2 large sized tomatoes, 3 medium sized potatoes sliced as shown in the picture.
Next I took about 15-16 garlic cloves, 2 inch ginger, 3 green chillies, 6-7 cloves, 6-7 black pepper, 3-4 cardamom, 1 inch of cinnamon.
Take about 2-3 tbsp cooking oil. I used mustard oil as we Bengali's use mustard oil for cooking. Heat up the oil nicely and add in the crabs and 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and fry the crabs for about 4-5 minutes on a medium flame.
Now take another 2 tbsp oil and fry the potatoes with 1/2 a tsp of salt and 1/2 a tsp of turmeric powder till they are 75% cooked. It takes about 5-6 minutes on a high flame. Transfer the potatoes in a clean plate once done.
In the same kadhai/ pan take another 2 tbsp oil and let it heat up nicely. Now add 1 tbsp cumin seeds and 3 bay leaves and cook it for 1/2 a minute.
Now add in the ginger garlic and other spices paste that we prepared earlier. Cook it for about 2 minutes on a high flame.
Now we add the powdered spices 1 tbsp corriander powder, 1tbsp cumin powder, 1 tbsp red chilly poiwder and 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder. Also add salt as per taste at this point and cook it on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes till the masala releases the sides of the pan/ kadhai.
Add water as per the desired consistency. I added about 2 glasses of water and cover it and let it boil for about 10-15 minutes on a medium flame. Taste it before turning off the flame and add salt if needed.
There you go. Your delicious crab curry is ready.
